Strawberries Romanoff
The first time I ever had this dessert was several years ago at a work Christmas party. I didn’t cook or bake as much then, so it never occurred to me to try and recreate it. I completely forgot about it until Eric and I moved to Dallas a few years ago. There, we discovered a chain restaurant that we actually enjoyed, which is a rarity for us. La Madeleine became one of our favorite places to get breakfast, and I could never bring myself to order anything other than the Crêpe Romanoff, which was topped with strawberries and a wonderful brandy sour cream sauce.
It’s been over two years since we moved away from Dallas, so I can’t tell you how much this recipe tastes like La Madeleine’s. What I can tell you is that it tastes fantastic and can be made quickly with ingredients you probably have at home. I haven’t tried it yet, but I imagine this would taste delicious made with Grand Marnier or Cointreau in place of the brandy.
- YIELD: 2 servings
¼ cup sour cream
1½ teaspoons brown sugar
1½ teaspoons brandy or vanilla
1½ teaspoons sugar
¼ cup heavy cream
2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced if large
Freshly grated nutmeg
- 1
Mix the sour cream, brown sugar and brandy together in a small bowl.
In another bowl, whisk the heavy cream until it thickens slightly, then add sugar. Continue whisking until cream is fluffy. Gently fold whipped cream into sour cream mixture.
- 2
Place strawberries in serving dish of your choice, then top with sauce and freshly grated nutmeg.
First, fantastic picture! Second, that looks delicious!
Thanks, Joanne! It sounds fancy, but it's an incredibly simple dessert.
I too was addicted to the strawberries romanoff at La Madeleine's!! I can't wait to try this recipe!
Kate, I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one. This recipe is delicious, and the girls might even like it if you just use the vanilla. 🙂
My first thought when I saw the title was "La Madeleine!" I even have all of the ingredients for this…Dessert tonight, perhaps.
Kira, I hope it turns out well! It really is great to be able to whip a few ingredients together and have dessert.
I'm with KMAYS…all I could think of is La Madeleine's with this post!! I'm going to have to make this 🙂
I loooooooove La Madeleine!! Their chicken caesar salad is awesome! I'm SO glad to finally see a recipe for straberries romanoff – that's just about one of my favorite things ever!! Way to go on creating an awesome recipe! Too bad you don't live in big D anymore…we could totally meet up! 🙂
I have to say, I'm so glad I'm not the only person who first thought of La Madeleine! 🙂
Amy, it would be awesome if I were still there! I know we would have such a great time together. Dallas was such a cool place to live, and I hate we were only there for six months.
